The North Staffordshire Regiment raised 18 regular, territorial, service and other battalions during the war – of which 13 served overseas.
1 Bn North Staffordshire Regiment – 17 Brigade, 6 Division
The 1 Bn North Staffordshire was a regular army unit. At the start of the war they were at Buttevant, County Cork, Ireland. They went over to France 12 September 1914 with 6 Division and moved to 24 Division in October 1915. In 1916 they had over 500 casualties in 2 gas attacks at Wulvergheim, Belgium, and on the Somme had over 350 casualties. They also fought at at Third Ypres and Cambrai in 1917 and, in 1918, the Kaiser Offensive and 100 Days.
Both men transferred from 3 Bn KSLI, training and reserves in July 1916.
