The 12 Bn West Yorks. a service ‘Pals’ battalion, raised at York in September 1914. Arrived in France during September 1915 and gone straight into the line as reserves during the Battle of Loos when they suffered heavy casualties. The battalion then served in and around Ypres during the rest of 1915 and into 1916. 17 February 1918 : disbanded in France. Formed 10th Entrenching Bn with 8th East Yorks.
