Arras. Éterpigny, 1 Bn King’s Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). 1 September 1918.
On 1 September the battalion were relieving the 1 Bn Somerset Light Infantry in the line in front of Éterpigny, about 15km west of Arras. The battalion HQ was on Lady Lane – the road running SE from Boiry Notre Dame. During the relief the enemy heavily bombarded the position with gas shells which caused a considerable number of casualties.
