Brookside Villas, Maesbury  Private 203047 John Griffiths, 4 Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers.  Born in Pontesbury. The family moved to Berriew then to Maesbury. His father was a corn miller/merchant had a busines in Oswestry at 28 Oswald Road. See also 17 Gate Street re father’s bankruptcy in 1923.

‘Crumpwell’, Maesbury  Trooper 257 George Frank, 1 Bn Australian Light Horse.    In  1901 at Park Avenue Oswestry. Emigratred to Australia 1911.

Drill Cottage, Morda Rookery  Private 52641 George T Kirk, 1/8 Bn Lancashire Fusiliers.    Also lived  at Upper Weston Cottage / Brook Villa, Weston

Gordon Square  Private 4960 Thomas Jones, 3/1 Bn Herefordshire Regiment.  His widow remarried, Mrs Wynne,   and lived here.

Lake Vyrnwy Terrace     Private 24196 Joshua Chetwode, 1 Bn King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.    & brother   Private 24963 John E Chetwode, 1 Bn King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.   No Known address in Oswestry.

Llwyn y Mapsis, Morda      Second Lieutenant George Hughes, 7 Bn King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. and brother  Second Lieutenant Charles H Hughes, 14 Bn Welsh Regiment.    A farm near Morda. George moved to Liverpool to work for London and Midland Bank. Charles had an apprenticeship with Cambrian Railways.

2 Roseberry Terrace    Private 73090 Cyril Jones, 9 Bn Royal Fusiliers.  His parent’s home at the time of his death given as  Kitchener House, Morda. Also at Llwyn House, Llwyn Road.

Gronwen, Morda

Corporal, 10910 Jack Roberts, 19 Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers.  Living with grandparents  BROTHER TO – Private 10037 William Roberts, 1 / 4 Bn King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.   LIving with parents. Their father lived at 8 Duke Street and 32 Gate Street, Oswestry

 

MORRISTON, SWANSEA

13 Rock Terrace, Treforis, Abetirwe  Second Lieutenant BDR Davies, Royal Flying Corps,   Born Swansea moved to work in a bank in Oswestry boarded on Stewart Road.

 

MYDDLE, Ellesmere, Shropshire Village 10 miles north of Shrewsbury
