Temporary Lieutenant Harold N (Nicholson) Lewis, 17 Bn Lancashire Fusiliers. His mother and aunt were school teachers. His aunt would go on to be head of infants at Oswestry Council School. His mother, by 1911, had moved to Helsby where she was headmistress at Runcorn County School. Harold is also commemorated on the school’s Roll of Honour, the school is now Helsby High School.

Oswestry National School, Welsh Walls, Oswestry
The school opened in 1841 and first catered for 220 boys, 180 girls and 150 infants, with a residence for the Headmaster. Built by local builder, James Vaughan of Beatrice Street, to plans of Thomas Penson Jnr of Willow Street, on land that belonged to Colonel Gatacre. There was a residence for the headmaster, but as further teaching accommodation as required it was later converted into classrooms.
