William Sharp was born and enlisted at Liverpool, joining 1/8 Bn King’s Liverpool Regiment, Liverpool Irish. He cannot be positively identified from census records. Also, he has few military found military records. He was married, Soldier’s Effects give his widow as Mary Daly. The Effects also list his death as presumed between 1 November and 1 January 1919. He is recorded as having drowned. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Cologne Memorial, Germany. On the CWGC it is recorded that 6 names on the Memorial died after the Armistice by drowning and their bodies were not recovered. William is also commemorated on St Oswald’s Church listed as in the KLR. This is his only known connection to Oswestry.
