ROPE WALK Ran from Beatrice Street, just after the site of the Beatrice Gate, between Albert Road and Castle Street, to the end of Cripplegate. Rope Walk as the name implies was used for the manufacture of rope. In mid 19th century it was owned by Thomas McKiernin of Bailey Street. During the mid 1860s many homes were built in this area in response to the need for more housing following the arrival of the railways. Demolished in the1960s to make way for Castlefields housing estate.
